At a glance:

Affordable and soft, these Morrisons nappies went down well with our panel of mum testers. Unlike others on the market, these do not get bulky and saggy, and will last overnight with no leaks.

What they say:

“With an ultra-thin, absorbent core system, soft flexible sides and leg cuffs for leak protection to keep your little one comfortable and dry. Made for new adventures, these nappies have a secure fit and are super absorbent for little ones on the go. Our waistband helps you know when it's time for your baby to move up size and the nappies are super soft, with a specially shaped core to keep new arrival's comfy and dry. Made for round the clock comfort, the nappies are super soft and stretchy, with anti-leak leg cuffs for around-the clock comfort.”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I liked that the nappies had colourful pictures and displayed the nappy size on them, as I have found some brands can be quite plain. I found the nappy easy to use, and upon doing some research I consider the price to be quite reasonable for an own brand product. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this product for any other reason due to the leakage problems – I found that the material of the nappy was quite flimsy and I could smell my child’s urine very early on into him wearing the nappy. I found that on a few occasions my son had a sticky residue around his thighs where the nappy had been, which I have not ever experienced before trying this product.

How did this product make your life easier?

In my honest opinion, I did not feel that this product made my life easier in any way at all! On the very first wear of the nappy, within less than two hours of my son wearing it, it had leaked and completely soaked through his clothes. I was out and about at the time and although I will always change him as soon as it is needed, I found it inconvenient as I then needed to find a place with suitable changing facilities to enable me to change his clothes. I decided to give the nappies the benefit of the doubt, but I found that it was a problem with the nappies themselves as he continued to leak on a regular basis. I have tried three other brands prior to this and whilst I found they had their own problems, I never had an issue like this with any of them.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would not choose this product above any others on the market and would prefer to stick to my current choice of brand. I personally don’t think this nappy should win its category, as the current brand I am using is cheaper and more durable. I don’t think it should win due to the reasons I have stated above, but also, I have found others to be stronger, longer lasting and have a better fit.

What changes would you make to this product?

The main thing that I would change about this product to make my life better would be the fit of the nappy. I found that when we first used the nappies the edging around the leg holes was quite loose and gappy, which could be the reason why we had so many accidents. This is the main feature that is important to me when searching for a decent nappy brand, because it is not always convenient to change a nappy straight away and in my opinion this brand did not provide for me in that respect.

I feel that the design on the nappies is pretty and colourful which is great for my baby’s development – I know my baby has looked at the pictures while doing a nappy change and appears fixated on the pictures. As I said before, the materials are soft and my baby appears comfortable wearing the nappy and is not left with any red markings. For hygiene reasons, it is important that my baby is not able to undo the nappy, or that there are no gaps where she could put her hands into her nappy, and the Morrisons Nutmeg nappies are a perfect fit. The cost of the nappy would give me another reason to recommend them to a friend as getting good value for money is a must when managing on a budget.

How did this product make your life easier?

I would say that this product is very reliable in that it is secure with the tabs not coming undone and that I have not experienced any leaking. Also, as my little one only wakes once a night for a feed, unless she has soiled her nappy, I tend to just leave the nappy change till the morning so I don’t wake her fully. I also haven’t experienced any leaking when it has been on for 11 or 12 hours, the only exception being if she has soiled her nappy. The nappies are very soft to the touch, meaning that I have no concerns in putting them on my baby’s delicate skin. She hasn’t had any reactions to the nappies and I would be happy to use these nappies again.

I am fortunate to have a Morrisons supermarket very close to me, meaning that it would be a product that I would be likely to buy on a regular basis because of the closeness. I have used many different brands of nappies recently, and have found none of the others have met the quality of the Morrisons nappies. Do I think these nappies should win? I have only had positive things to say about these nappies, so yes.

What changes would you make to this product?

Testing these nappies over the past couple of weeks has made me think about what makes a really good nappy stand out from the others. I was looking at the quality of the materials, the comfort of my baby, costings, hygiene and ease of use. I have found I do the same now for other brands that I use, and the Morrisons nappies do stand out from the others. The one thing I would suggest would be for Morrisons to add a wetness indicator, as it allows parents to see just how wet the nappy is without having to fully undress the baby and begin the nappy change.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

In terms of performance, the quality of materials, comfort and dryness, I would definitely recommend this nappy to fellow mums.

How did this product make your life easier?

This nappy performs as expected – it fit my toddler well and stayed put as she moved around. She was dry all night and didn’t suffer from any leaks, dampness or nappy rash. I felt the quality of the materials was much better than most high street brands, as the padding and exterior covering were softer than my current brand.

Would you choose this product to win?

I really like the soft feel of the materials, including the exterior. It felt less plastic-y compared to my current brand, and I feel that this must mean the nappies are more comfortable for my toddler. It also didn’t become overly swollen and heavy when wet and the nappies also had an attractive design which I really liked.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would appreciate a nappy that was kinder to the environment – whilst I don’t wish to use re-useable nappies, I am concerned about the impact on the environment of disposable nappies and their various components.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I had really high hopes for the Morrisons Nutmeg Ultra Dry Active Nappies, but felt a little disappointed after testing them. They may be fine on some babies, but for my son they didn’t and they left him with a bit of nappy rash. That said, the nappies feel nice to touch, they are nicely designed, the pictures on them are cute and they are really easy to use.

How did this product make your life easier?

The Morrisons Nutmeg Ultra Dry Nappies do, in a way, make it easier as a mum, but only in the ways most disposably nappies do. The nappies feel nice and comfortable to wear, until my baby urinates in them as the nappies do not keep the liquid away from the child’s skin. The nappies are wet to touch on the inside and I think this caused nappy rash on my baby. This is the first time he has ever had nappy rash, and it actually made my life harder as I had to deal with an uncomfortable baby with sore skin!

Would you choose this product to win?

I would not choose this nappy over others on the market as they did not work well for my baby. Although I like the overall design of these nappies and the soft feel, I do not think that they should win an award because in my experience, they do not keep moisture away from my baby’s skin.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would change the material that makes up the lining, as a lining that sits against the skin should be dry feeling and hold the moisture away from baby’s skin. If the lining of the Nutmeg Ultra Dry Nappies had stayed dry, I would have been able to give these nappies a better review as I really did like everything else about them.

Tested by mum Jenn Holton for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would definitely recommend this product. They are nothing fancy, but they are just good quality, easy to use, well-fitting, comfortable looking nappies! They not only stopped leaks onto clothing, but kept my baby’s bum feeling dry on the inside.

How did this product make your life easier?

This nappy does exactly what you would expect a basic nappy to do. It fits well, it didn’t leak during a 12-hour period (overnight) and was lightweight which is perfect for a changing bag. I think these Nutmeg Ultra Dry nappies are excellent value for money and are really good quality compared to other supermarket own-brand nappies.

Would you choose this product to win?

I really liked using these nappies and my baby seemed dry and comfortable in them. They are also good value for money which is a massive plus.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I had to suggest one thing that could be improved with these nappies, it would be the material as it felt a bit plastic-y opposed to cotton feeling. This doesn’t affect the use or performance of the nappy, but I was dubious as to how well it would work and how comfortable it would be for my baby.
