Testing the Momcozy M5 breast pump

New mum Lucy put the Momcozy M5 to the test, here's how she got on.

I’m a first time mum and a breast pump was a product I definitely felt daunted about purchasing. What I like about the Momcozy M5 is its simplified design, there aren’t loads of tubes to worry about cleaning, it’s all contained into a sleek little bubble. Compared to the Momcozy wearable breast pump the rechargeable design removes the boxed out battery area of the other model to give as much space for milk and for comfortable suction as possible. The travel bag is really smart and ideal for taking the pump with you on the go as it’s got a hard case so you’re not worried about the pump getting damaged while in your bag. There are a few different nozzle options which also fit into the storage bag, so everything can be kept neatly together.

Usability wise, the instructions were so clear that even though I’d felt nervous about pumping, it really helped to reassure me. I charged up the pump and tried out the functions with it in my hand at first, so I knew what to expect. Sound-wise I was impressed as I’d expected a breast pump to be louder. There are three modes, one to stimulate milk flow, one to express, and one which is a mixture of the two, and there are nine suction levels so you can adjust it to what suits your breastmilk flow best. There are four different sized flange inserts so you can find the best fit for your nipple, and I liked that they’re all included so you can do a bit of trial and error – I’ve seen that some other breast pump brands sell flanges separately so you wouldn’t get this option necessarily. You can also buy more inserts separately if you do find that the four provided don’t suit you. And, so you can figure out which flange size to start with, Momcozy provide a breast pump flange size chart so you can find the correct size through the chart.

The digital screen is easy to read, even while pumping, so you can see what setting you’ve got it on, and the buttons are easy to use as well.

The horizontal angle of the breast pump isn’t something I’ve seen other brands mention, and when pumping I did feel like it replicated my baby’s feeding position. I was happy with the amount of milk and the relief it offered as well. I’m mainly getting to grips with pumping in preparation for returning to work, so my baby is mostly breastfed but I’m using the pump if I feel engorged, and am just storing the milk in the freezer for now in case I need it. Pumping with the Momcozy M5 is more comfortable than I was preparing myself for, so that’s been a bonus as well. The double seal helps it to stay in place, so I don’t have to worry about adjusting it all the time.

There’s no leaking and it’s easy to empty the milk into a container, and easy to clean. Being hands free means I can tuck it into my bra and still get on with things around the house, or take my son for a walk in the pram. This was really important to me to have that multi-tasking option when pumping.

Final thoughts

I’d definitely recommend the Momcozy M5 breast pump to other mums. It’s discreet, quiet, comfortable and effective, plus considering the price compared to some other brands, I think it’s great value for money. The case is a real stand out feature for me, and it’s also quite nice that you can pick from three colours. The only downside I’d say is that the washable parts aren’t dishwasher friendly – which would make cleaning even easier. That would be the only additional feature I think would improve this product.

Can I move around while I pump?

Absolutely! The Wearable Breast Pump lets you move how you want to while you pump. The Wearable Breast Pump tucks into your bra so you can pump while you walk, multi-task, lean back, or relax.
