When can a toddler sit in a chair?

Every child is different, so they will all be ready to sit in a chair in their own time. However, generally, as soon as your little one is able to pull themselves up from laying down to sitting upright and can maintain that position (albeit a little wobbly), they should be ready to sit in their own chair.

Of course, when they're at that age when they can sit up, they want to be up on their feet, exploring their surroundings. You may have a bit of a challenge on your hands getting your toddler to stop and sit down for over a minute or two.

How high should a toddler chair be?

Comfort is key when it comes to getting a child to sit in their own chair. The style of the chair and the material it's made from will help with that, but the biggest factor is how high your toddler's chair is. Your child should be able to put their feet flat on the floor, with their knees bent at a 90-degree angle.

A toddler chair should be around 29 centimetres high. The overall dimension of a chair for toddlers will be bigger than this, but ideally, that is how high your little one should be when they are sat down.
