The best travel strollers to make parenting on the go easier

Travel strollers

If you've got travel plans coming up and a little one in tow, a good travel stroller is about to become your new best friend. Sometimes called compact strollers, lightweight strollers, or travel buggies, they’re designed to make zipping around with your baby a breeze and are a lot less bulky than your standard pram or pushchair.

Many of these are designed to fit in the overhead locker on the plane, making them perfect for that long-awaited family getaway. Along with a travel cot, they could be one of the most important items you need for your holiday.

As well as being light and compact, these strollers are easy to fold compared to a bulky travel system. They're designed to easily manoeuvre through crowded streets while still providing the durability you need for all sorts of terrains, whether it’s cobbled paths or sandy beaches, making it perfect for everyday use as well as holidays. And when it’s time to head home, no problem! They're light enough to carry up a flight of stairs without breaking a sweat.

Best travel strollers at a glance:

If you're wondering if you really need a stroller, we'd suggest thinking of it like this: a bike and a car. A bike is lightweight and perfect for short trips, while your car is more comfortable for longer journeys. In this case, a stroller is the 'bike' - smaller, lighter, and super convenient for those quick outings. It's perfect for folding up and popping in the car boot, slipping into the overhead compartment on a plane, or discreetly stowing away under the table at a restaurant. Prams and pushchairs, on the other hand, are built for sturdiness and comfort, often part of a travel system with a carrycot for newborns and car seat compatibility. But when your little one’s outgrown that newborn phase, a stroller is great for those toddlers who want to hop in and out during a holiday or a day trip.

Our team of eight real parent testers put nine travel strollers through their paces over the course of a month, using them with children ranging from newborns to four-year-olds. These strollers were tested in real-life holiday settings on planes, through airports, and during daily adventures, from sightseeing to on-the-go naps. We asked our testers to evaluate each stroller on key factors, giving a score out of five and an honest review of how easy they were to fold and manoeuvre in a hurry, how simple they were to clean after spills, their durability throughout the trip whether it was over cobbles in a city or through busy airports, how parent-friendly the design was, and the practicality of storage while out and about and at home. In addition to these hands-on tests, we've also included two more strollers from trusted brands, selected based on genuine mum reviews and expert opinions, to ensure your little one stays safe and comfortable. Full Mother&Baby reviews of these are currently underway.

The best travel strollers 2025

Best travel stroller overall

MOTHER&BABY/Jodie Neale

The Hauck Travel N Care Stroller was awarded Gold for Best Lightweight Buggy/Stroller at the Mother&Baby Awards 2024.

The Hauck Travel N Care Stroller is a budget-friendly yet premium option for parents on the go. Setting it up is a breeze with its simple assembly, and the intuitive one-handed fold mechanism makes it an amazing time-saver for busy parents, which we loved. Testers also found this stroller lightweight, which makes it great for travelling. Deputy Digital Editor for Mother and Baby Stephanie Spencer said, "Really compact and easy to open, especially if you’re alone! I like that you can easily sling it over your shoulder."

Our mum tester, Jodie, loved the design, saying, "I am really impressed with the design; it offers a variety of positions for your baby and allows them to be sat upright, which is great if you have a curious baby like mine, who detests nothing more than being laid downwards. He enjoys holding onto the safety bar during our walks, and the straps are easy to clip - no fiddly or complicated restraints." While the Hauck Travel N Care Stroller boasts many impressive features, including an adjustable footrest, removable/washable covers, and ample storage basket, some users have noted that the canopy could be extended further to provide more extensive coverage from the sun, especially during intense sunlight hours and when travelling in sunny locations, although Stephanie Spencer said, "the sun shade covers right over, probably more so than other strollers I’ve used so extra shading in the sun."

A real plus is that it is easy to clean, so it won't matter too much about melting ice cream or any unfortunate travel sickness. We also loved that it comes in a range of colours, and Stephanie Spencer really liked the olive green colour. Our tester was impressed with how flat it lies for naps and also commented on how easy it is to use, saying, "It’s smooth to push along, too."

Best travel stroller with one-hand fold

Expert rating:
5.0
MOTHER&BABY

With an automatic, one-handed fold, the Graco Myavo is compact and lightweight, which makes it easy to take on the go, just what you need when travelling with a little one. Our tester, Senior Writer Samantha Ball, said, "It's a brilliant compact design, incredibly easy to use and lightweight enough to carry." We like that it has the option of a three- or five-point harness system to keep your little one secure and a detachable bumper bar to make it easier to put them in and take them out. Additionally, the UPF50+ canopy provides amazing comfort and protection from UV rays, enhancing the stroller's appeal and making it a fantastic option for parents planning a holiday.

Testers liked the compact design and integrated folding lock, which ensures hassle-free transportation and storage. They also noted that it fits easily into car boots, leaving ample space for other essentials. While it can be folded one-handed, testers found that the mechanism for the one-handed fold can be tricky to use at first and also commented that their child sometimes slid down in the seat. Samantha Ball was impressed by the one-handed fold, commenting, "The one-handed fold alone was enough to impress me."

However, the Graco Myavo still excels in usability and build quality. Its smooth manoeuvrability over various terrains and easy recline feature make it a practical choice for everyday use. Plus, little ones seem to find it comfortable, too, with Samantha Ball adding, "My daughter was actually happy to stay seated in the stroller, and I loved that she felt comfortable enough to stay seated in it, as she would normally try to climb out. The Graco Myavo is definitely a great travel stroller."

Best travel stroller with lie-flat seat

Expert rating:
4.0
Mother and Baby

If you're a frequent flyer looking for a practical travel pushchair, the Joie Pact might just be it. Impressively light, a doddle to fold, and seriously compact, we love that it even comes with its own storage bag and has an integrated carrying strap. It is also compatible with some Joie car seat models, making it even more convenient when travelling. Our tester, Lynne, said, "Very lightweight – light as a feather when open and not heavy to carry or lift up onto an overhead shelf on transport." Another reviewer said, "I bought this because I must travel by train with my 5-month-old. I can easily fold and unfold it with one hand while holding my baby. It's extremely lightweight, and the strap is great for carrying it."

Reviewers liked the all-wheel suspension, which ensures a smooth ride for your baby on all terrains. We love the lie-flat seat, which is suitable for birth. Our tester, Lynne, commented, "ok on grass, but not for any duration with a heavier child," and also added that it's "really sturdy." However, there was some criticism about the backrest, which doesn't fully rise and could be more comfortable and Lynne said, "The seat doesn’t sit forward enough for an older child over a longer journey, so he can’t sit fully upright, although the handlebar has a great soft cover to lean on."

Overall, testers were impressed and said the stroller was of good quality. They also liked how compact it is, so it doesn't take up too much room in the boot of the car. One mum tester was impressed and commented, "It feels of good quality and will grow with my baby. It's perfect for travelling with and folds up very small to fit the boot of a car."

Best travel stroller to fit in the overhead cabin

Expert rating:
4.5

The Cybex Beezy is a lightweight, travel-friendly stroller designed with urban families in mind. Weighing just 8.1kg, it folds down to L26 x W43 x H58 cm, meaning it fits easily into small car boots and overhead aeroplane compartments. Featuring a lie-flat recline, adjustable leg rest, and all-terrain wheels, it's suitable from birth up to approximately 4 years (22kg). The stroller's one-pull harness simplifies securing your child, while the XL UPF50+ sun canopy offers ample sun protection during sunny outings.

Our mum tester Charlotte loved how easy the Beezy was to move. "The Beezy is great to manoeuvre... I live on a farm and use it out walking along the tracks as well as for travel." She also found it very compact for the car, saying, "It fits perfectly into the boot of my small car but would equally fit under a seat in a larger vehicle."

While the stroller excels in many areas, some users have pointed out minor drawbacks. Adjusting the seat position via the toggle mechanism can be challenging when the child is seated, and the harness adjustment system may require some effort.

MOTHER&BABY / Emily Gilbert

The Joolz Aer+ was awarded Gold for Best Lightweight Buggy/Stroller at the Mother&Baby Awards 2025.

With a width of just 45cm, the lightweight Joolz Aer+ can be taken straight onto the plane and popped into the overhead locker, which we love, and it is a real plus for a travel stroller, especially with a carry handle to make carrying it even easier. Plus, even better, the stroller is available in over seven colours, including refined Black, and it is made from recycled plastic bottles rescued from our oceans, so it is kind to the environment, too.

The large, extended hood offers UPF 50 sun protection to keep your baby safe and also has ventilation to keep your little one cool. Its robust construction and premium feel make it suitable for both urban and rural walks, accommodating children comfortably while being easy to manoeuvre for parents of varying heights.

M&B's Reviews Editor Emily Gilbert loved Aer+'s compact fold, admiring it for its ease and smoothness. The integrated shoulder strap makes taking this pram out quite literally a walk in the park. It fits into car boots effortlessly and still leaves ample space for other essentials like trikes, scooters and shopping.

We loved that the stroller maintains a high-quality feel despite its lightweight design and that a cot complete with a breathable mattress can be purchased separately if that's your preference, although the Aer+ does recline fully flat if you'd rather not pay the additional cost.

Easiest travel stroller to carry

Mamas and Papas

Super-slim and perfect from birth and for growing toddlers, the Airo pushchair is perfect for navigating tight spaces. Not only is it Mamas & Papas' lightest ever pushchair, but the stroller can even be worn as a backpack when your little one would prefer to toddle on their own, which we think makes it the perfect travel stroller. Mother&Baby Editor Maria Martin tested the pushchair and said, "My 1-year-old and I have been testing the Airo out for about 15 months. The pushchair has served us well as a light, compact travel assistant that's useful when boarding aeroplanes and when out on busy city day trips."

Testers liked that it folds with one hand and is solid and sturdy, thanks to the unique dual-sided wheel lock. Maria Martin also commented that "it folds down to a compact size and is super lightweight. We've been able to fit this into every car boot possible." With adjustable positions for your baby, a bumper bar, and a quick-fit five-point harness, testers love that you can be safe knowing your little one is comfy and secure. Plus, it is cabin-friendly, so it can be carried onto the plane.

Impressively, despite being compact, it has great underseat storage. Maria Martin found that "the under-seat storage compartment is big enough for snacks, water bottles, hats, etc. We added a couple of buggy clips, which helped attach a change bag whilst on the move." However, some reviewers noted that the seat is smaller than on other strollers and may not be as comfortable for larger toddlers. That said, our tester, Maria Martin, added, "I love that the seat can lie completely flat and that the Airo can be used with a sun shield/insect net (sold separately) – handy when nap times are calling, but home is nowhere in sight."

Best travel stroller for style

Cosatto

The Cosatto Yo! is a compact, lightweight stroller built for everyday adventures with little ones from birth up to 25kg (around 4 years old). Weighing just 7kg, it’s very easy to carry with a free-standing fold, making it perfect for navigating busy streets or storing in tight spaces. Airline compatible, it's ideal for travelling abroad with, and coming in six fun designs, you can find one to suit your family.

Ideal for napping on the go, the Cosatto Yo! offers a fully reclining seat that’s suitable from birth, complete with a magnetic 5-point harness for quick and easy securing. The double-tiered UPF100+ hood provides excellent coverage on sunny days, while the all-terrain suspension ensures a smooth ride across different surfaces. The spacious under-seat basket can hold up to 8kg of essentials, and the eco-conscious fabric, made from over 34 recycled plastic bottles per stroller, highlights Cosatto’s dedication to sustainability.

The main downside on design is the handle, with our tester commenting that "handle height is not adjustable so for anyone taller than 5ft 5” (I for reference am 5ft 3”) you will feel like you’re stooping" so taller parents may want to find a pushchair with an extendable handle.

Parent testers particularly loved how lightweight this stroller is and how easy it is to put together, erect and collapse. Testers also found it very responsive when pushing, comfortable for the child and loved that there's a good amount of space underneath while still being airline compatible when folded. "Being able to have a pushchair that is readily transportable is an ease you don’t know you need until you have it." Said one parent tester. "The design is nice, and the fabric is great for cleaning post-toddler messes and meets the needs for unexpected naps. It can grow with the child’s needs as they develop further, whilst meeting the parents ' needs as well. I would highly recommend this product." Our tester continued.

MOTHER&BABY

The iCandy Pip is a stylish and practical travel stroller designed with modern families in mind. Weighing just 7kg, it’s one of the lightest compact buggies on the market. Our Reviews Editor Emily Gilbert found it was great at “gliding along pavements” with ease and even managing grass and curbs effortlessly. Thanks to its one-hand fold mechanism, you can go from box to stroll in seconds with no complicated setup or instructions needed.

Approved as IATA cabin luggage, the Pip is ready to jet-set with you (just check airline specs first). Once folded, it stands upright and fits into its included carry bag, which also holds the bumper bar and rain cover, which mum tester Emily found “very handy for travelling by plane or other mode of transport.”

Despite its slim profile, it boasts a surprisingly spacious seat, providing comfort for growing toddlers. The reversible liner adds versatility, while the multi-position footrest and lie-flat recline make it suitable from birth. “My baby has never looked anything less than seriously comfortable in it.” Commented Emily. Available in five chic colours like Latte, Sunset, and Sage, it blends fashion with function. As Emily noted, “I love the look of the iCandy Pip… the handle feels so buttery soft - I demanded my husband come feel it immediately.”

The UPF50+ canopy with a mesh window offers excellent sun protection and visibility. The harness system is thoughtfully designed to simplify buckling in wiggly babies, and the “flip-flop-friendly brake” is a welcome detail for on-the-go parents. While it’s not built for off-road adventures and lacks an adjustable handlebar or parent-facing option, the Pip delivers premium quality, sleek aesthetics, and compact convenience. “If style is important to you… The Pip is worth spending the extra money… a smart investment for modern family life.”

Best budget travel stroller

Weighing just 7.07kg, this is not just the lightest on the list but one of the most affordable too. The stroller features a simple one-hand fold and is suitable from birth up to approximately 3 years (15kg), with a multi-position recline that includes a near-flat position for newborns. Its adjustable calf support ensures comfort as your child grows, while the large, easy-access storage basket provides ample space for essentials.

Parents love its portability, commenting, "Its lightweight design makes it incredibly easy to manoeuvre and transport, perfect for travel or quick trips around town." Another shared, "It's compact when folded down, super easy to put up and down, and brilliantly lightweight." However, some reviewers have mentioned areas for improvement for comfort, "The seat reclines down to let the baby lie down or sit up, however, there is not a huge amount of support on the seat and when it was sitting up my baby would slouch sideways."

best travel stroller with auto-fold feature

Mother&Baby

The Ickle Bubba Aries Auto-Fold Stroller is a compact, lightweight option designed for busy parents on the go. Our parent tester, Hatty, loved its standout auto-fold feature. This stroller folds down effortlessly at the push of a button, making it ideal for city living and travel. She said, "It promises to be lightweight and easy to fold, and it certainly delivers on this."

It boasts a sleek, modern design and offers convenience with a roomy shopping basket, extendable UPF50+ canopy, and adjustable footrest for added comfort. Suitable from birth up to 22kg, it’s a practical choice for growing families.

"The lightweight nature meant it was much easier to push up the hill, and the narrow size meant that we were no longer forcing others on the pavement to have to walk in the road, and we could finally fit inside the quirky knick-knack shops without fear of knocking items off the shelves," explains Hatty.

However, while it impresses with ease of use and portability, the Aries does have its limitations. Its compact design prioritises convenience, and Hatty found that it doesn't ride smoothly on uneven terrain. Despite this, its functionality, lightweight frame, and affordability make it a strong contender in the travel stroller market.

Best travel stroller for storage space

Expert rating:
4.0

The Maxi-Cosi Lara 2 is a compact, lightweight stroller designed for modern parents on the move. Weighing just 6.4kg, it's easy to carry and navigate through busy streets or public transport. The standout feature is its quick, one-handed automatic fold. A simple push of the handle collapses the stroller in seconds, making it ideal when juggling bags or a baby.

Designed with breathable fabrics, the Lara 2 ensures your child stays cool and comfortable, especially in warmer climates. It offers three recline positions, including a lie-flat option, making it suitable from birth up to 4 years. As one reviewer noted, "The lie-flat position is perfect for naps, while the 3 recline options allow your child to sit back and relax during longer strolls."

Storage is another standout feature, with two spacious shopping baskets accessible from both front and back. A parent shared, "The two net pockets... are well capable of storing everything, making Lara2 a convenient, everyday baby pushchair."

The Lara 2 is compatible with Maxi-Cosi car seats like the Pebble, Pebble Plus, Pebble Pro, and CabrioFix, integrating seamlessly into a travel system. Optional accessories such as the 2-in-1 Footmuff, Mosquito Net, Pushchair Parasol, and Pushchair Gloves are available separately.
However, it's worth noting some limitations. The stroller doesn't fit in most aeroplanes' overhead compartments, which may affect travel convenience. Additionally, some users found it slightly flimsy on uneven terrain. One reviewer mentioned, "The wheels feel too small for normal use, and the frame not sturdy enough – it shakes and vibrates on bumps."

The Mother&Baby verdict

Based on budget, weight and usability, the cabin-approved Hauck Travel N Care Stroller came out as best overall, while more expensive models like the Joolz Aer+ and iCandy Pip tested better for longevity and style. If it's safe sleeping on the go you want to prioritise, then the Joie Pact might be the best option for you, and if you're looking for something for city exploring, then the Mamas and Papas Airo is ideal.

What to consider when buying the best travel strollers

Hayley Hanigan, the founder of baby equipment rental service Tiny Explorers, gives us her tips on what to look for when choosing a travel stroller.

Compact and Lightweight: Hayley says, "A travel stroller should be compact and easy to fold, making it convenient for travel. Look for strollers that can fit into aeroplanes' overhead compartments."

Portability: "Consider strollers with a carry handle or a travel bag for easy transportation. Some models even come with a shoulder strap for hands-free carrying."

Reclining Seat: "Look for a stroller with a reclining seat so your child can nap comfortably during travel. Some strollers have multiple recline positions."

Sun Canopy: "A large sun canopy is crucial to protect your child from harsh sunlight. Some canopies also have UV protection."

Cleaning: "Can you remove the materials easily to clean the sand and lolly stains?!"

Storage Basket: "Check if the stroller has a spacious storage basket for carrying essentials like diapers, snacks, and small bags."

Safety Features: "Ensure the stroller has a 5-point harness to secure your child. Also, look for a brake system to keep the stroller stationary when needed."

Compatibility with Car Seats: "If you plan to use the stroller with an infant, consider one that is compatible with your infant car seat. This allows you to transfer your baby from the car to the stroller without disturbing their sleep."

Another factor you can consider to ensure travelling with little ones is easy and stress-free is the folding mechanism. Folding and unfolding your pushchair should be easy and intuitive, even when you're holding your baby. One that's freestanding when folded will take up less space in your accommodation when it's not in use. Also consider the pocket because somewhere to stash your valuables is a handy feature in a holiday stroller, but make sure it is big enough to hold your purse, phone and keys. Finally, don't forget the wheels. Some lightweight strollers have adjustable wheels that can handle different types of terrain. Lockable swivel wheels are ideal for manoeuvring between shiny shop floors or hotel lobbies and rougher ground. If you're heading for the beach, choose all-terrain wheels with good suspension.

Tips for travelling with a stroller

Once you've found the right stroller for your needs, there's a few things you'll want to do in preparation for flying with a travel pushchair.

Research airline policies – Each airline has its own policies, so it's important to check the specific rules of the airline you're flying with regarding stroller allowances. Make sure to confirm whether the stroller can be stored in the overhead locker as carry-on or if it needs to be checked at the gate or with your luggage and be sure to check the dimensions of your stroller against the restrictions of the airline you're flying with.

Remove accessories – It's a good idea to remove any added accessories you have on your stroller before travelling. This includes things like cup holders, trays or fan prams to minimise stress when folding or having to check it in. It's also a good idea to make sure you've given it a good clean before your travels.

Invest in a stroller bag – While many of the travel strollers we've included in this list come with a storage bag included, some don't and it's well worth buying one if you're planning on checking it onto the plane to keep it clean and protected from any damage when being moved in transport.

Ask for help – Sometimes, especially if a plane is quite full, you may get to the gate and be asked to check in your pushchair as there may not be space for it in the overhead locker. If this happens and you need to quickly fold down your stroller, it's okay to ask for help from the airline staff - particularly if you're travelling on your own. They should be more than happy to help you and help minimise your stress.

Travel stroller FAQs

Do you need a travel stroller?

Lightweight travel strollers are the perfect holiday pushchair if your existing buggy feels too cumbersome to travel with. But they're not just for holiday use – lots of parents replace their baby's first pushchair with a lightweight stroller once their baby starts walking, especially when a light, manoeuvrable pushchair is a practical choice. There are compromises to be made, though, and not all are suitable from birth.

How light do you need it to be?

A pushchair is considered lightweight if it is 7kg or less, but some weigh nearly half this! A very light pushchair will inevitably be less robust, so think about just how light you need it to be – will you be lifting it on and off trains with your baby strapped in, or carrying it with your baby in your arms when boarding a plane?

How compact do you need it to be?

When folded, most lightweight pushchairs are compact enough to fit into a standard car boot without taking up all the space. Others are designed to fold even more compactly. Check that it's freestanding when folded, too.
