Tested by mum Louise Carroll for the M&B Awards 2016:

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

At £19.99 I feel that this Lindam Push To Shut Extending Metal Safety Gate is good value for money. It is essential for those awkward spaces in a home where a standard size gate will not fit. The fact that this gate has no bar at the bottom is brilliant as my three year old is constantly tripping over these on standard gates. Very easy for parents to open but I would say near impossible for an inquisitive clever toddler which is perfect.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

There are three key things for me that make this Lindam Push To Shut Extending Metal Safety Gate an exceptionally good product compared to the majority of standard gates on the market. You can remove the gate panel without having to remove the fixings themselves making it versatile, the gate itself opens both ways and it feels safe, sturdy and secure as it is fixed to the wall with screws and not just pressure mounted. This gives me complete peace of mind with my eldest child swinging on them like he does.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

Can’t improve this!

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

A lot of my friends were looking for extendable stair gates when they were buying. I think this is one of the best I've seen.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

I don't have to worry about my increasingly curious son on the stairs. Its safety mechanism is good - easy enough for me to use, tough enough for him to crack.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

I wouldn't.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

Great for those stairs which are too wide for your standard true pressure gates yet when you add the extension section it is too big. Like the fact that there is no bar to trip over which is great at the top of the stairs especially for those children who can use the stairs safely.  Easy one hand opening when carrying a child.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

Knowing that your child can not get down the stairs. Also the catch is not obvious for the toddler to try and work out how to open it.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

Nothing.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

I was able to fit the Lindam Push To Shut Extending Metal Safety Gate with easy to read and understand instructions. Once installed it felt very secure and would happily use at the top of the stairs. I liked how it can open two ways when fitted to a door way, and just the way you want on the stairs (for safety). I also like how there is no floor bar, this saved my baby tripping over. I liked also how it pushed shut making closing the gate easier and quicker. At £19.99 I think this gate is good value for money and would definitely recommend it to friends.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

I am able open and close this gate single handed, so I can carry laundry etc. upstairs and be able to keep my children safe at the same time.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

Nothing.

Fixes to the wall, unlikely to move. The Lindam Push To Shut Extending Metal Safety Gate feels strong and secure when in position.

One handed opening & extendable.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

Very basic design, same as all of the others. Lacks imagination and colour/texture.
