When looking for a baby bed, we all know Snüz for their popular SnüzPod bedside cribs but now the brand has released the SnüzBaskit, an alternative and forward-thinking Moses basket to support baby’s sleep in the early stages of development, from birth to six months. Here's how new mum Kerry got on with the SnüzBaskit when she got her hands on it.

Testing the SnüzBaskit

I wanted a Moses basket that was easy to move around, especially to transport from upstairs to down in the early days to allow a smooth transition from day and night sleeping. Having my first child, I wanted a product that I had confidence in and that would bring comfort and security to me and my baby, especially as sleep is so crucial with newborns for so many reasons!

The SnüzBaskit was tested both in my bedroom and my living room for day and night sleeping from birth to now seven weeks on.

Having the SnüzBaskit from day one was a complete game changer for both myself and my baby girl. Like any newborn, she felt so tiny and precious that every moment holding her or moving her around felt so important. With the SnüzBaskit, I felt that every time I put her in there to sleep, she was ok, protected and safe – allowing me to relax for those much-needed minutes having hands that were free to make food and cuppas with!

My daughter really seemed to settle in there easily, even from bringing her home that very first evening. More importantly, because she settled so quickly, and because it was so light and easy to move, I transported it upstairs before setting her down for the night for the first two weeks of her being home – trips up and down the stairs took mere seconds before I would then bring her up. Because the frame and basket was small enough to put both next to my bed and sofa easily, it became a bed for her that was next to me as I was sleeping or sitting beside her – without having to be a bedside crib.

As the days and weeks went by, she grew into the basket seamlessly. The size of the basket allowed her to stretch out her arms and legs (which I'm a huge fan of!) as she got bigger without her waking or being uncomfortable.

She was quite sickly between three-five weeks of age and having the sheets and additional cover over the sides and being so durable and easy to take off to wash really helped me to make sure she always stayed comfortable and clean when she was napping – it really is amazing how far fluids from a baby can travel!

The one downside I found was that the height of the basket on the stand meant that I needed to raise myself up from the sofa or bed to be able to see her in there clearly – and a few times she had been sick but I couldn’t see that until I was stood over it to lift her out, meaning she’d then already rolled in it and needed a complete outfit change.

When it came to the first evening that her Grandparents looked after her in their home, the first thing I picked up to put in the car was the SnüzBaskit. It was so easy to pack in there and I knew she would love the familiarity of having somewhere to sleep that smelt of home – and that’s not always possible with a Moses basket, but totally doable with this product.

Final thoughts

I really loved the SnüzBaskit, and at under £100 for the basket and stand – it’s good value for money, screams of quality, and is worth every penny! Not only was it easy to use, in several rooms (and homes!) but it looks great. It’s also extremely durable – in a world of new babies where everything can easily become worn, it’s pretty much flawless seven weeks on.

Of the countless naps that my daughter had in there, she’s always settled easily and has never woken herself simply from moving around but she has in a bedside crib and other smaller Moses baskets that we have used at friends’ and family’s houses. She looks and seems to feel cocooned and safe to sleep, but has plenty of space in the SnüzBaskit, even after two growth spurts.

If I had to change anything, it would be two parts. Firstly, I would lower the height of the basket by about 6/7cms, just to be able to glance in much more easily to check in on your baby. Secondly, I would perhaps go a bit further and put larger hold mesh panels at the top and bottom for viewability for the parent, whilst keeping that out of eyesight of the baby so as not to disturb them.
