Testing the SmarTrike Traveler Active

I'm a mum of four and found recently that my youngest son was getting frustrated in his stroller. He didn't like the fact he couldn't sit up straight and was always holding onto the bumper bar, so I thought he'd love the SmarTrike Traveler because it's a lot more engaging with the handles.

Build

The SmarTrike Traveler is really lightweight and is a compact design when folded, making it easy to carry where needed and also store in the car, and still have plenty of room.

I love that it has footrests, so my sons feet aren't just dangling like they can in some strollers, which is good for support and his growth. The five point harness system is also easy to use and little fingers can't unfasten themselves, so I know my son is safe and secure when fastened in to the stroller.

Performance

Everything is extremely easy to adjust, which is really useful when you're in a rush as it saves a lot of time. I do wish I had used this from earlier on, as my son is almost one years old and I feel like he could have benefited from this stroller.

I think the recommended age is appropriate and the fact that the trike adapts to your little one as they grow is a fantastic feature. You do expect more from any travel system you buy for your newborn, so I'm not sure how many people would buy it to use from six-months unless you saved it from an older child, which you definitely could.

It really lived up to expectation and more, as I've been searching for a stroller my son would like, while also being convenient to use and store.

Usability

I found the SmarTrike to be really easy to use. It was easy to manoeuvre on different terrains, which is really helpful when going on walks with the family as we don't always stick to pavements and frequently go on walks without a proper paved path.

It was easy to store too, as the trike folds almost completely flat, making it easier to store in a small space or the car boot. I also found it extremely easy to fold and pop back up too.

The SmarTrike Traveler Active was also comfortable for my son. He's nearly one, and where he was straining to sit up in his stroller, he actually relaxes to the back of this stroller, as it does sit upright. He loves holding on to the bumper bar or handles too.

Final verdict

Overall I loved the SmarTrike Traveler Active Stroller. It's a fantastic concept and great value for money. With having four kids, saving space is really important so being able to fold it almost completely flat was a big bonus.

I would recommend the SmarTrike Traveler to other parents as it's practical and is able to adapt as your little one grows.

What age is the SmarTrike Traveler Active Stroller suitable for?

The Traveler Active seamlessly adapts to children's growth:

From six months

It features a comfortable, reclining seat up to 160 degrees, so that you can lay them back for a nap. The Traveler Active is designed for comfort too, and features a removeable leg rest, five-point harness system and bumper bar for support.

There is also a quick-fold mechanism to make storing the stroller a lot more convenient.

From 12 months

With the ability for parents to still push the stroller, the Traveler Active allows little ones to feel like they're in charge of their own journey with easy to grip handlebars and steering. The front-wheel shock absorbers also ensures smooth and safe rides over different terrains.

It also features a UPF 50 sun canopy to keep your little one protected when outdoors.

From 18 months

Parents can easily switch control between parent and child steering modes, so that toddlers can practise coordination by guiding journeys in short bursts. This allows children to feel some independence at a stage where they might refuse to sit in an ordinary stroller.

From 24 months

When children outgrow the stroller, parents can attach the pedals to switch the Traveler Active from a stroller to a trike. And when your little one inevitably gets tired, parents can switch to a parent control and push the stroller - so no need to carry the trike and your little one!
