I’ve been testing the Cybex Avi Spin with my three year old – and now it’s my go-to pram

Cybex Avi Spin

As a mum of three and a Mother&Baby writer, I've road-tested more prams than I can count, and my latest obsession is the Cybex Avi Spin. It claims to be ‘the ultimate city, all-terrain, and running stroller’—and while I don’t exactly jog through busy city streets, I do have three kids under seven. So, what I do need is a pram that can zip through tight supermarket aisles and sprint to the school gates before that dreaded morning bell rings.

Finding the perfect pram or stroller for a toddler sounds simple, right? Wrong. Once your little one hits the big three, they suddenly want to walk everywhere—until you’re in a rush or a crowded place, and those tiny legs can’t quite keep up (cue meltdown). Trust me, having a reliable pram is still a game-changer. But unlike the bulky contraption I had for my first baby, my stroller needs have evolved. Back then, I would’ve happily pushed my little one around in a baby carriage forever. Now, I need something that handles the chaos of everyday life, and the Cybex Avi Spin does just that.

Testing the Cybex Avi Spin

Setting up

Setting up the Cybex Avi Spin was surprisingly easy. I decided to initially test it out at Chessington Adventure, which, let’s be honest, wasn't my best idea. Between skimming through the instructions and trying to keep an eye on the kids, who were by now wreaking havoc in the backseat, I was feeling the pressure. But, in less than five minutes, the pram was up and ready to go. I was genuinely impressed by how simple the setup was and how sturdy and well-made it felt. One of the wheel hubcaps was missing, which might bother some, but since it didn’t affect the performance, I wasn’t too fussed.

If you are looking for something small and compact, like a travel pram this isn't your best option because even when it's folded down it's still pretty long. However, you can take the wheels off which does make it smaller. What I did love is how flat this pram lays. it isn't bulky and in my Ford X max size isn't a huge issue but I like that it can lay at the bottom of the boot and things can be put on top or around it.

Usability

As previously mentioned, I took this pram to Chessington World of Adventures. Being at a busy theme park means navigating through packed crowds, which is when the Avi Spin shone. It's straightforward to manoeuvre around tight bends, and walking with it is a breeze. The front wheel is lockable but I really liked how well it reacted to quick sharp turns.

The pram handles a variety of terrains very well due to the air-filled tyres. While it performs best on smooth surfaces like pavements and paths, it still manages grass and rougher terrain without much effort. - as my son found out when he decided to take his brother on an off-roading shortcut. The wheels are large, sturdy, and give a stable ride, so you don't feel like you're battling with every bump on uneven ground.

Performance

My favourite feature is the brake on the handlebars, which makes it easy to stop when going down a slope or hill or when you're too close to the person in front's ankles. This pram was so easy that my six-year-old insisted on pushing it around, and he loved that the handlebars could be lowered to his height.

This pram has a one-pull harness, which makes it easy for little ones to get in and out. I really appreciated this, as my impatient three-year-old wanted to hop in and out of the pram at a moment's notice. The quick pull mechanism made it easier to put him back when he needed (but didn't want) a break.

Final verdict

As toddler prams go this does deliver on all fronts. My son loved the footrest and looked comfortable at all times. For little one's that still need a nap, you will appreciate the one-pull flat recline which makes napping possible. This pram ticks so many boxes but why I have ditched my other prams for this is because it's truly a pleasure to push. No hill too big, no bump to bumpy. As a busy mother of three, I need something that can keep up with my children (quite literally) and this pram does just that.

What I would change about the Cybex Avi Spin?

One small frustration was the amount of packaging. While I understand it's meant to protect the pram during transit, it felt a bit excessive (each wheel was individually wrapped in multiple layers of plastic). So, be ready for a bit of a clean-up (or a tip run) once your pram arrives.

More about the Cybex Avi Spin

What are the key features of the Cybex Avi Spin?

The Cybex Avi Spin boasts a range of key features that make it comfortable for your child to travel in, whilst making it easy for parents to push and store too.

All-terrain comfort: The front swivel wheel can be locked into place for stability when running, or allowed to swivel for ease when moving through urban areas.

Easy to fasten child in: The Cybex Avi Spin has a one-pull harness feature that lets you take your child in and out of the stroller with ease.

Space saving: With a one-handed compact fold, the Avi Spin is easy to store and transport when not in use. All the wheels can easily be removed to make the stroller more compact and store more conveniently.

Can the Cybex Avi Spin be used with a car seat?

If you're looking for a versatile stroller, the Cybex Avi Spin is a great option for parents, as it's even suitable to use from birth and is compatible with all Cybex infant car seats, as well as the Cot S.

Is the Cybex Avi Spin easy to fold?

Yes, the Cybex Avi Spin is designed for easy folding. It folds quickly and compactly, although it’s still relatively long when folded, so it may not be the best option for small vehicles unless the wheels are removed.

The Cybex Avi is suitable for children from six months up to around 22 kg (approximately four years old), making it one of our favourite prams for toddlers and young children.
