Maternity dungarees can be a sure fire way to jazz up your wardrobe while pregnant, while still offering maximum comfort. Discounting the fact that you'll have to pull them up and down more frequently thanks to little one pushing on your bladder, maternity dungarees are versatile, practical and comfortable – they create stylish maternity outfits.

Some of our favourite mums, including Binky Felstead, Lucy Mecklenburgh and Fearne Cotton, have all been seen wearing maternity dungarees during pregnancy, and we love a bit of fashion inspiration! Checking off that maternity dungarees are comfortable, and stylish, we can also add in that you can even rock them after your pregnancy and beyond.

The best maternity dungarees:

Best blue denim maternity dungarees

Denim dungarees asosASOS

For a classic go-to pair of maternity dungarees, this light washed pair from ASOS is our winner. With an elasticated waist, adjustable buckle straps, and wider leg design for a cool yet casual fit, we love the relaxed denim wash of this denim.

Made using a classic denim fabric, it’s important to note that these dungarees are not stretchy, so you may want to size up if you prefer a less snug fit, with one mum reviewer saying, “honestly I’ve never felt so comfortable in dungarees before especially being pregnant but I wish I bought them for my first pregnancy! Best ever, I’m usually a 12 maternity size so I bought a 14 and there perfect!” Caring for them is also very easy as they’re fully machine washable so you can just throw them in with your other maternity denim.

Pros

  • Complete with adjustable straps, providing a more comfortable fit.
  • They feature a button on the side, allowing them to fit well throughout different stages of pregnancy.
  • This dungaree comes with multiple pockets, including a bib pocket, side pockets, and back pockets.

Cons

  • Some mums found they needed to size up

Best short maternity dungarees

Sometimes you don't want a full length jean when it's hot and sunny outside so we love these short dungarees, ideal for holidays and warmer days in the sun. With fully adjustable straps and made using a soft denim, they're ideal for pregnancy and beyond.

We also love that the shorts turn up at the ends meaning you can easily turn up an extra layer if your legs are a little shorter or if you prefer a shorter length short

Pros

  • These are well priced compared to others.
  • They are made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane, the fabric is soft and stretchy.
  • Complete with adjustable straps and elasticated side supports.

Cons

  • These are not available in alternative colours.

Best maternity dungarees for tall and petite women

Seraphine dungareesSeraphine

Seraphine is quickly becoming one of our favourite maternity brands for quality clothes. These dungarees are tailored to grow with you through pregnancy and beyond, making them excellent value for money. Made in soft stretch denim and feature adjustable panels at the sides for a flexible fit. Our Reviews Editor Emily Gilbert loved the adjustable fit, saying, "I always knew I wanted a pair of dungarees when I was pregnant and this has to be the perfect pair. At 5ft1, I love that Seraphine caters to shorter (and taller!) mums-to-be and these really do fit perfectly as well as being seriously comfy."

Plus, talk about seriously stylish. Pair with a jumper, casual tee, or a pretty blouse depending on the weather. They’re also available in three different colour washes, depending on your style.

Pros

  • These dungarees have adjustable side panels and shoulder straps and side, back & chest pockets.
  • They are available in different colours of denim.
  • Seraphine has tall and petite size options available alongside regular.

Cons

  • These are at a higher price point compared to others.
Sizes:8-18

Best inclusive size range maternity dungarees

Available in sizes 6-20, these denim dungarees have a bit more of a slouchier fit for everyday wear and are available in two different colours. Perfect for a casual look when paired with trainers and a t-shirt, these dungarees are also easily adjustable thanks to the extending straps.

Made using 100% cotton, these dungarees are machine washable and as they're washed, you shouldn't get too much black dye transfer as you can so often experience with black denim. They're designed to look flattering even after you've had baby, so should hopefully stand the test of time.

Pros

  • This dungaree comes with adjustable straps and multiple pockets.
  • These are perfect for after baby's born too.
  • With three buttons to expand the waist, the dungaree can accommodate your growing bump.

Cons

  • Some parents-to-be may not like the washed colour.

Best for most stylish maternity dungarees

Mango denim dungareesMango

If you're looking for some dungarees that are a little more fashionable that you can wear throughout the winter too, maybe with a jumper underneath, then we'd recommend this stylish medium blue wash pair from Mango. With a straight-leg cropped design, they finish at a very stylish length to look good when paired with trainers or even sandals or boots.

Featuring crossover straps on the back for easy adjusting, we love the stylish single pocket on the front. With an inseam of 68 cm, it's important to note that the model is 178 tall and is wearing a size 36, with Mango recommending you go for your usual dress size.

Pros

  • Includes plenty of pockets.
  • The dungarees feature adjustable straps, covered elastication at the sides and side buttons, allowing for a comfortable fit as your bump grows.
  • Suitable for both summer and winter wear.

Cons

  • Some parents may find the cropped legs too short.

Best maternity dungarees for summer

These slouchy dungarees are perfect for someone looking for an ultra-comfy and casual jumpsuit to throw on, particularly for summer holidays as they're made from 100% cotton for a cool feel. You have all the colour choice here with 15 colours to choose from with the ash green being our personal favourites. Mums love how these can be easily adjusted, with one commenting "I found that the crotch hung a little low for my taste, but was easily solved by shortening the straps. I put a popper on the inside of the bib and let the straps fall inside the bib as the straps were a little on the long side for me. Nice and loose without being overly baggy."

The main downside is the fact these are hand wash only to avoid shrinkage. Having said that, many mums tried washing these on a gentle cycle in the washing machine on a low temperature and found that they didn't shrink or get damaged. Mums particularly found these ideal for keeping cool in the summer months, with one mum commenting, "not the heavier fabric I had imagined, but cool, light-weight fabric and very comfortable, so ideal for summer-wear."

Pros

  • Perfect for staying cool in the summer.
  • It has an oversized fit, button decoration and side pockets.
  • It's made out of 100% cotton.

Cons

  • Hand wash only is advised

These maternity dungarees are a little more expensive but offer great comfort and stretch. Ideal for running errands or looking a little more put together on the school run, the leg is stylish, casual, and straight which makes them flattering and not too baggy or constricting. They have an elasticated back, adjustable straps, and a handy back and two side pockets. Unlike other dungarees, mums found these very flexible, with one commenting "Super comfy, flattering, fitted me from 17 weeks through to due week, fully expect to be living in them whilst the bump goes down. Stretchy so can actually bend to pick things up off the floor and get socks on etc, easy to hoist on and off."Available in sizes 6-18, some mums found the leg length wasn't quite right for them, with shorter mums saying they were too long. However, most found the fit comfortable and easily adjustable on the straps. The main downside was that they couldn't be tumble dried.

Pros

  • It has a straight leg design and is made from 98% cotton and 2% elastane.
  • The dungarees have 2 deep side pockets and 2 back pockets.
  • The back is elasticated and buttoned straps, providing a customizable fit throughout pregnancy.

Cons

  • They cannot be tumble dried or dry cleaned.

These loose-fit dungarees are perfect for all expectant mothers and are made from a four-way stretch fabric with a brushed finish. Where can I buy a pair of maternity dungarees?

Itching to get your hands on a pair? Just check out any common fashion retailer like ASOS or H&M to grab a chic pair of denim or cotton dungarees. These fashion stores usually have their own brand of maternity ranges.

Look out for ones that have adjustable buttons or stretchy fabrics so you can use them throughout your entire pregnancy - even after your pregnancy if you want to!

What's the best way to style dungarees?

The options are endless when you decide what to pair your maternity dungarees with, but here at Mother&Baby, we like to keep things casual and classic. Think a slogan t-shirt with a pair of white trainers. If you have a pair of black or denim dungarees, you can add a chic twist by pairing them with a Breton striped top underneath or try adding a scarf to tie your hair back for an effortless look.

The most important thing, however, is that mum-to-be is as comfortable as possibly can be. Layers will help keep you cool if you need to shed them during a hot flush or throw on a chunky knit if it's closer to winter. Dungarees are a staple item for your maternity wardrobe all year round, so you can stretch the imagination when it comes to styling and adding your flourishes.
