A bedside crib (also known as a next-to-me crib) is one of those baby products at the top of the list for parents when expecting a baby. The close proximity to your bed allows for easy nighttime feeding and comforting, helping to promote bonding and easing the transition from womb to crib.

A popular maker of bedside cribs, Tutti Bambini's CoZee Air Bedside Crib is an updated version of the CoZee Air Bedside Crib, featuring two ventilation panels rather than one plus the ability to turn the next-to-met into a rocker.

In this review, Features & Reviews Editor Emily Gilbert delves into the CoZee Air Bedside Crib's design, functionality, and overall performance, exploring how it caters to the evolving needs of both parent and baby.

As the Reviews Editor for Mother&Baby, I've seen a lot of bedside cribs and for the most part, they're all pretty good. So when it came to choosing one for my own baby, due in the Spring, I was spoilt for choice. In the end, I went for the Tutti Bambini CoZee Air Bedside Crib. Practically, I liked the fact it had two ventilated sides (many just have one), the handy storage shelf underneath and that it came with both lockable rocking bars and castors. But how did it compare in person?

Assembly

My husband and I were pleasantly surprised at how compact the CoZee Air was when delivered to our home. Unpackaging it from the box, we found everything tucked neatly into the included travel case. After a quick skim of the very simple instructions, we simply removed it from the bag and unfolded the legs, making sure the brackets clicked into the plastic receives on the underside of the crib base. And there it was! Standing before our very eyes in just a matter of seconds. With a lot of other brands of bedside cribs, getting the crib into a similar position can require a lot more work so the ease of the 'build' (if you can call it that) was seriously impressive.

The rest of the assembly was similarly a breeze and pretty much just consisted of inserting the storage tray underneath the crib and popping in the mattress.

It was when we reached the part of actually attaching the CoZee Air to our bed that things became slightly trickier. While the instructions are well laid out, they are pretty simplistic and although this is fine for the very easy building of the cot, for attaching to the bed, we personally could have done with more details. In the end, we found a video online that made the process a lot more straight forward and soon enough, we were admiring our new bedside crib - while admittedly feeling a little daunted that there would soon be baby in there!

Features

There are six different height positions for the CoZee Air. The lowest (position one) is suitable for a mattress height between 49-52cm while the highest (position six) is suitable for a mattress height of 64+cm. Our divan bed is quite high so we found position six suited our bed. It's easy to adjust the height by squeezing the large button on each side and moving the crib either up or down. This requires little effort. You can position one side of the CoZee Air higher than the other to help a baby with reflux which we felt was a nice touch.

I was keen for easy access to our baby (who needs complications while you're sleep-deprived?) and the drop side of the CoZee Air thankfully fulfils this brief and is both quick and simple to operate. You just need to unzip the upholstery around the top bar, push down the buttons on either side and pull the top bar down. Breathable mesh windows are pretty standard with bedside cribs and are something I find really comforting though with the CoZee Air, the side furthest from your bed can be hidden under a flap if you so wish.

Gaining storage wherever you can is a necessity as a parent and the storage shelf which sits neatly under the crib is a huge help for storing the likes of muslins, wipes and anything you might require during the night.

While most parents will want to keep the CoZee Air attached to their bed for obvious reasons, it also comes with lockable rocking bars to help soothe your little one to sleep. It's worth bearing in mind that the bed can't be attached to the bed so needs to be set up as a standalone crib while these are in use which feels like a bit of a shame as I personally like the security of knowing the bed is securely attached rather than just next to it. That said, the rocking function works well; I can imagine it's a valuable addition if baby needs a bit of calming. You also receive lockable castors should you want to roll the crib around.

Style

There are three colours available in the CoZee Air range. We opted for oak and charcoal as it matched our bed perfectly. While I personally really like the look of the CoZee Air and think it looks really smart, it's not made of real wood which may bother some parents considering the price.

Overall it feels really sturdy and robust and I feel confident that the crib would last a long time.

Final thoughts

I'm really pleased with the Tutti Bambini CoZee Air Bedside Crib. Although our baby hasn't arrived to make use of it just yet, I'm satisfied that it's going to be a really useful piece of kit for our family. The ease of putting it together and actually using it has been a really positive experience and it fits well into our home.

It's a little on the larger side compared to other bedside cribs so may not be suitable for all families but I find this really valuable as it will give our son plenty of space to grow, unlike Moses baskets which are often a lot smaller. It is however wonderfully compact enough to fit into its travel bag and relatively lightweight at 10kg.

There are cheaper bedside cribs available however the versatility of the CoZee Air, being able to use it as a bedside crib or as a standalone crib and with rocking bars or wheels really helps it stand apart from competitors and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to other parents-to-be.
