The beautiful crochet Ickle Bubba Nova basket and collapsible stand not only offers a contemporary and stylish design, but it will make sure your little one feels cosy and cocooned. Moses baskets are essentially babies first bed and separate haven, so our tester, who was in the late stages of pregnancy and awaiting their first baby, couldn't wait to build it and put it through its paces.

Testing the Ickle Bubba Nova Moses basket

Even though Moses baskets are simple designs and can be carried around and placed wherever you wish, those that come with a stand do require assembly. Our tester, Joe, found assembling the Ickle Bubba Nova Moses basket was a piece of cake. "Assembling the stand and basket was very simple; the instructions were clear and precise," he told us. "It only took several screws to put together and they were easy enough to screw in by hand. It is easy to feel confident with the build as all parts went together very well and without any doubts."

If you’re someone who is looking to move around the basket to different places in the house, The Ickle Bubba Nova – specifically with a basket stand – is perfect for you. There are a few colour options on the website, our tester chose the grey and was chuffed with the contemporary cocoon style and Instagram-worthy crochet basket.

Joe says, "We love the look of the basket and the stand. It is very minimal, but elegant, and works in every room. The woven basket itself is super soft and very well made.

"The sides do feel a bit loose as there is no supports around the top and in the handles. Perhaps this is why the basket is very light to carry even with a baby inside. But this doesn’t stop it from feeling strong and sturdy and very comfortable to carry at the same time."

Joe's baby isn't due until August, but given the advisories for babies’ age – suitable from birth until approximately six months or until they can sit up unaided – he insisted that it feels very safe. They even tested the basket out with their 13-week-old baby nephew Miles, who still fit in the basket perfectly with some room to grow into it. The basket is also a great height, as it is not too tall and not too low, making baby feel part of the room and not hidden away.

Inside the basket, it has a solid wooden base and a great mattress inside, which supports the baby but provides extra comfort. The stand is also very sturdy, making it almost impossible to destabilise by accident. It even folds up, which takes the worry out of marking the walls when carrying up and down stairs.

It comes with adjustable straps around the basket, which can keep the basket almost locked in or can open up for ease of removing the basket. However, these are adjusted by unscrewing and moving the strap around, not ideal when in a hurry, but not the end of the world.

Final verdict

All in all, our tester was very happy with the basket. Its simple design makes it feel a part of the room without being a centre piece and practicality-wise, it is great to take from room to room. A great-looking, well-made basket which is light and easy to carry.

Many parents go for more traditional-looking baskets made from palm leaf or wicker, but the Nova is made from crochet polyester and offers a more modern look. If there was one downside, it would be that it is a little tricky to clean the basket itself (especially if you were to spill anything on it) as the care instructions state that you use a soft sponge and warm water with a mild detergent to clean the basket's fabric.
