A happy baby sitting up in a baby bath

Bath time is a great bonding experience for you and your baby and an inaugural part of their night-time routine. It can, however, be a source of stress as you worry about keeping your little one safe in the water. The mixture of water and soap can create a dangerous zone in the tub, so to prevent your little one from slipping around, make sure you use a baby bath mat.

A baby bath mat will add a layer of protection between your precious bundle of joy and the slippery bathtub. These anti-slip mats will ensure your little one stays securely in place. If this sounds like something you need for your little one, you can find the best baby bath mat for a safer bathtime in our list below.

Review: "I have tried a couple of different bath seats for my child, but none of them suited. I decided to try this mat and it has been brilliant. I have been using it now for a few months and my son is now nine months old. He doesn't slip in the bath now. He can lean forward to get things and he has been fine. The suction is brilliant. Once it's down you can't slide it to move its position at all. The only way it moves is if you physically pull it up and reposition it. The extra little toys have also been great. We hide them under the bubbles for him to find and he loves to have a good chew on them too haha. I highly recommend this item."

Review: "I am very pleased with this mat. It keeps my daughter from slipping in the bathtub. It sticks great. When not in use, I sometimes stick it on the side of the bathtub for better drying and cleanliness. The holes all over it drain water well, so the design of this mat is really great for keeping it dryer and cleaner than others anyway."

Review: "Fantastic bath mat. Looks great and is very non-slip. Sticks down easily on the bath and prevents my toddler from sliding around during bath time. My 19-month-old daughter panics if she gets her face wet. She then wants to get out of the bath immediately and stands up so quickly that I'm not expecting it. The mat has prevented any slips and nasty accidents that may have occurred without it."

Best baby bath mat with mildew resistant material
Yolife Non-Slip Bath Mat

Kiddies will go quackers for this duck baby bath mat. It's made using an antibacterial and mildew resistant material that is BPA, latex and Phthalate free. It can be rolled up and easily stored away when you're not using it.

Dimensions: 39.8 x 8.6 x 6.6cm

Weight: 580g

Review: "If you require a mat which is non-slip, look no further. The kids love the ducks on the mat. They don't slip when taking a shower or a bath. The mat doesn't come off until you forcibly remove it once its wet. I've had it for 8 months now and it's been great with no issues. I recommend you rinse off the mat with hot water after each use to prevent it from smelling or getting dirty, but this is no different to any bath mat. The only improvement comment I have is that it would be ideal to have a greater length as the mat is a little short on the length in my opinion."

How to keep baby safe during bath time

Never leave your baby unattended

Your baby should always be within arm's reach. If your little one is a newborn, your hands should always be on them as they can't sit independently. You may want to pop your newborn into a bath seat to give them more stability.

Make sure the water temperature is not too hot or too cold

As babies are unable to regulate their temperature, it is important to keep the water warm enough that your baby doesn't get cold. You also need to make sure the water isn't too hot as it could scald your little one. Around 37-38 degrees is the perfect temperature.

Keep the water shallow

Unlike the baths we might draw for ourselves, baby baths don't need to be full to the top. The ideal amount of water for a baby bath is around two to three inches. You can keep your little one warm by using a cup to gently pour water over them.

Ensure the area stays slip-free

Bathtubs are notoriously slippy places. To keep your tub slip-free, you will want to use a baby bath mat from our list to give your baby a secure surface to bathe on. Thoroughly washing away soap and shampoo will eliminate any other slip risks.
