Chicco Goal League

At a glance:

A fun, football game for your toddler which is great fun and safe enough to use indoors. Our mums loved how easy it was to put together and simple to clean and many commented on how well their little ones played together. That said, the netting can quite easily come loose, which can be a little annoying.

What they say:

“The football goal recognises when your child scores a goal activating lights and fun sounds. It offers three electronic gaming modes (Penalty Kicks, Golden Goal and Challenge) to play alone or with friends, and includes five levels of difficulty for more and more exciting challenges! Goal League plays 25 melodies and sound effects. The ball included is made of soft material to be used safely, even in the house! With mesh goal and end security, kicking the ball into the goal develops motor skills, but also stimulates the coordination and precision of movements.”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would definitely recommend this product, as it's very easy to use, got the kids up and about, and gave a different twist on football. Even though we had a few little moans about who's turn was next, everyone enjoyed using it! As a mum, I found it really easy to play with them, despite not being that good at football. It was easy to put together, not taking up too much room, and simple to clean if we got it a bit dirty outside.

How did the product make your life easier?

It helped get the kids more active as they loved the noise it made every time they would score a goal. They also enjoyed the different games that you can play on it, and I think overall it helped get the kids interested in football more than they were before we got it. We can use the Goal League indoors or outdoors, and it's easy to move about.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think for the cost this product is brilliant. It’s easy to put together, the kids enjoyed using it, so much so that it got us all up and playing some football games. The kids enjoyed using it because every time they would score a goal, it would play a different sound, which they always loved hearing. Overall, I would definitely choose this toy one above the rest.

What changes would you make to the product?

The only one thing I would change about this product would be to make the back net a little more stable. I noticed if the kids kicked the ball in a bit too hard that the net could come loose, meaning the sound wouldn’t then go off.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product to friends, solely for its simplicity. It’s bright, loud and educational, and hearing GOAL gives my child a lot of other satisfaction. It's not about just kicking the ball in the net, as it also has numbers and colours to play with!

How did this product make your life easier?

My son is very into football and all things loud, so he tends to get engrossed in things exactly like this product. It gave me a chance to do general household duties such as the washing, hoovering and dusting. Products like this are very entertaining for small children, as they get a lot of enjoyment out of it, which means he will happily play with it for a long, long time

Would you choose this product to win?

I think it stands a good chance of being one of the top products due to its educational aspects and its age suitability. It's simple to use and a lot of enjoyment is had whilst playing with it. I would happily buy this product!

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing about this product it would be the size of it, if it was a little bit bigger it would be better due to it only being a small sized goal to aim for. My son would grow out of it very quickly with it being so small, although the size is ideal for storage, which benefits a lot of parents.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this to a friend with children of similar age, without a doubt. The reason being that the abacus feature teaches children basic counting, the lights are a good asset not only for the stimulation but also to help learn colours, and the overall product teaches children to share and really encourages play. I also like the plastic frame, as it's as easy to clean as it is on the eye.

How did this product make your life easier?

This product makes my life easier as a mother due to both my one and three year olds enjoying it. My three year old will kick the ball, and my one year old often then rolls it into the goal, keeping the two of them entertained for long periods of time, and letting me get on with other tasks.

I do believe this product should definitely be in the running for the award. I’ve used a lot of Chicco products with my eldest, and they are always durable, well designed products. The feature that makes this product stand out the most is, to me, the learning aspect. It's a product that teaches your child, gets them active, as well as teaching them how to share.

What changes would you make to this product?

The only fault I found with this product was the connection of the goal net to the frame. I found the top connections came off with the force of the ball hitting the net quite easily. Maybe if the fittings were tighter at the top it would stay on a lot better. Other than that, it’s a great product, and is more than worthy of an award.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend the principle of the product, as it is excellent and exciting for children. It is brightly coloured, fun, and the sound effects are great. They make my little one really enjoy playing with the toy, and the lights are an excellent addition, lighting up as you score more and more goals. The actual football is well made, and perfect for indoor play

How did this product make your life easier?

It was an interesting looking product that excited my little one when she received it.  I think most children would be very pleased to receive this toy initially. Once set up, the toy allowed her to play on her own, as the goal rewarded her when she scored, letting me get on with other things. It is also great for her to enjoy an active toy rather than one sat down or being in front of the TV - which is all I look for when choosing a new toy!

Would you choose this product to win?

Unfortunately I wouldn't choose this toy over others, solely because of the net constantly slipping off from the top fixings. I understand that the bottom has to move to allow the goal to register, but the top fixings are only popped on (unless I have misunderstood the instructions) and every goal means they pop out, making the whole back of the toy come loose. It is also quite hard to set up, as the instructions aren't very clear.

What changes would you make to this product?

The top of the goal should be better secured to allow more fun. Every time a goal is scored someone had to go back to the net and reaffix it, which soon became frustrating, and creates a negative impression of a toy that would otherwise be very good.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I'd recommend this product because it's so easy and quick to build. It's also very easy to clean, as the entire product plastic apart from the net, and although it does say that once assembled it can't come apart, I'm sure the net could come off if it needed cleaning. It's a good game to keep kids active and also encourage them to play together, which if you've got more then one child is great.

How did this product make your life easier?

This product doesn't necessarily make my life easier as it's a very football centric game, however, the children enjoyed playing with it, which meant that for the time they were using it I could get other things done. It's an easy enough game for them to understand by themselves, so I didn't need to spend time explaining it to them or having to help them while they were playing.

Would you choose this product to win?

I haven't seen any other games like this on the market, however if there was the choice of this or a normal, cheaper football net, even without noises and lights, I may be tempted to go for that instead. I think for the money it's a solid game, though there are some definite flaws with regards to the usability that, if changed, could greatly improve it.

What changes would you make to this product?

You can't really play with it on carpeted floors - the net has two plastic pins at the bottom that go into holes, with both needing to be free hanging for the game to work and make the noises/light up when the ball is kicked into the net. However, when played with on carpet, these pins can get stuck, meaning nothing happens whenever the ball hits the net, and that you have to keep moving them back yourself each time, which is very frustrating.
