You're probably aware that there are a lot of old wives' tales that supposedly hint at your baby's gender, but have you heard the heartbeat one?

The theory goes that if your baby's heartbeat sounds like a train, you're having a boy and if it sounds like a galloping horse, you will be expecting a girl.

Have a listen to the heartbeats below and see what you think...

Can your baby’s heart rate predict the gender?

No, the heart rate cannot predict the sex of your baby. It goes without saying that with these kinds of things there is always a fairly good chance anyway as it's 50/50 but if your upcoming arrival's heartbeat sounded like a horse and indeed ended up a girl, this would simply be a coincidence.

Babies generally have faster heartbeats than adults anyway (somewhere between 110-160 beats per minute) which might explain why they can sound like a horse or train.

But ultimately, experts have found no evidence that a heartbeat that sounds like a horse indicates a girl while a train-sounding heartbeat will mean a baby boy.
