When the M&B team heard the news of a Shrek 5 film, it was like all our Christmases came at once. We don’t know about you, but for us, Shrek is our go to family friendly film we love to put on for our little ones (who are we kidding, we definitely mean us), so the thought of enjoying a brand new instalment of the film series with our tots is SO exciting!
We can’t quite believe the first Shrek film came out over 20 years ago when we were kids ourselves, yet it still manages to bring audiences young and old so much joy. Since then, there have been three further Shrek movies as well as numerous spin offs.
Although we’ve got quite a long time to wait until the film is released, there’s plenty to get you excited and in the mood during the countdown including adorable merch and toys you and your little ones will love!
When is the Shrek 5 release date?
There’s quite a while for us to wait for the new Shrek film, and it’s been announced that the film will be released in cinemas July 1, 2026.
Who is in the cast of Shrek 5?
This is the part we’re perhaps most excited about as it’s been confirmed that Mike Myers will play Shrek, Cameron Diaz will play Princess Fiona and Eddie Murphy will return as the iconic Donkey.
It’s not yet been announced if other favourite cast members will be back, including Antonio Banderas in the role of Puss in Boots.
In a post on X, Dreamworks announced, "Not too Far, Far Away... Shrek 5 is coming to theatres on July 1 2026 with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz."
Shrek 5 trailer
There’s not currently a trailer for Shrek 5, however, Dreamworks did share a very small teaser on their Instagram when announcing the exciting news.
While we wait for more news, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite shrek toys and merch to get you in the mood for the new movie from adorable baby clothes and accessories to some things the grown ups will love too!

Although the bright green kids crocs have now been discontinued on the Crocs site (we wouldn’t be surprised if these made a return), there are plenty of Shrek themed charms you can add to your child’s crocs including these adorable Shrek ears. We also love that this can be washed in a washing machine as long as it’s on a low heat.

Another gem from Primark is this handy Shrek storage bag. Designed to be used in the home to store away things, we also think it would be great for a weekly food shop or even taking away on holiday when you need a bag that will fit everything in it for the beach. Decorated with the faces of Shrek, Puss in Boots, Princess Fiona, Donkey and the Gingerbread Man, we love the pretty pink and green colours.
While the girls may not fancy dressing up as Shrek, they may prefer this pretty Princess Fiona costume, complete with Ogre ears on a headband. Available from 4 years to 12 years, you may even want to paint your little one green to get the full ogre effect.
