Travelling with children can be challenging for any parents, whether you've got a young baby or a boisterous toddler in tow. While things can be more straightforward on shorter journeys, longer ones where you're perhaps off on a family holiday may require some means of entertainment to keep your little one busy.

Car games are a great idea for the whole family to get involved with, but if you'd ideally like bub to play alone so you can concentrate on driving (or dare we say it, get some rest if you're the passenger!), we'd recommend picking up some car activity toys.

Our round-up of car activity toys offers ideas for babies of all ages at a range of price points so you can find the perfect toy suitable for your little one. You might want to consider a car seat organiser to keep everything nice and tidy back there too.

Taf Toys Koala in Car Play Centre1 of 8

Taf Toys Koala in Car Play Centre

This rear-facing car toy can be adjusted to your baby’s height and features lots to keep them happy including a curved mirror and three rattling soft toys. Suitable from birth.

Review: "My baby loves kicking along to this product while I was driving, which was great as they usually do not like car journeys. I feel these toys are a really good stimulation to distract babies and infants who may not be a big fan of the car seats."

Review: "A life saver when it comes to travelling and keeping the little one occupied!"

My Quiet Book4 of 8

My Quiet Book

While you could argue most books are 'quiet' this is no ordinary read. Entirely made of fabric, it features 12 large pages full of vibrant colours and activities including shape matching, plaiting hair and tying a belt.

Review: "This is expensive, no denying it, but worth the money. Bought for our daughter (2) to take on holiday. Our son (5) really got into the older bits (tying laces) too. It has matching colours, plaiting hair, zips, buttons, sorting (daughter loves to sort!) so was a huge hit."

B. Toys BX1766Z Baby Radio5 of 8

B. Toys BX1766Z Baby Radio

If you don't mind listening to some baby-friendly music, this 3-in-1 retro-style radio is sure to be well received. It combines music, lights and teethers.

Review: "This toy has been hung from baby linking rings, that are hung around one of the head rests in the car. My son (now 7 months) has happily played with this for every journey for the last couple of months.
The music is different to the average baby toy and not at all annoying.
Recommended!"

Taf Toys North Pole Feet Fun Car Toy6 of 8

Taf Toys North Pole Feet Fun Car Toy

Another car activity toy from Taf Toys, this one can be attached to the headrest for your baby to play with. Along with a rattling penguin character, crinkling ice cream cone and a rainbow baby-safe mirror, there's a foot stimulation pad with rolling beads to encourage little ones to reach out and move their legs.

Review: "My baby kept throwing his toys in the car and becoming upset because I couldn’t get them back for him, he loves this and I can drive safer without him becoming distressed and distracting."

LAMAZE Activity Spiral7 of 8

LAMAZE Activity Spiral

This sweet activity spiral will aid your baby's fine motor skills development with hanging characters that encourages them to reach, pull and squeeze, strengthening muscles.

Review: "Great little toy which my little boy loves. It's particularly useful for car journeys, before he falls asleep, as it wraps around the carry handle and then I push it down to the side so he can then reach the toys. He particularly loves all the colours and patterns on both the dangling animals and on the main bit."

TenFans Busy Board 8 of 8

TenFans Busy Board

A great car toy activity for fidgety toddlers, the lightweight and handbag design makes this travel busy board easy to take with your child on the go. They'll love learning how zips, gears, beads and buckles work, as well as how to tie and untie a shoelace.

Review: "The "book" is fantastic, it is so well made and with lots of different busy bits to keep little hands occupied. It's so good for having in the car on journeys, and also for keeping little one entertained when out at a restaurant. My LO is 20mo and it keeps him entertained for ages, longer than anything else."
