Testing the Tutti Bambini Sprung Cot Bed Mattress
I’m a father of one, my daughter Iris is 22 months old and mum is a primary school teacher. Iris is a strong sleeper (we’re very lucky) and has been using a foam mattress up until testing this product. Iris has had a foam mattress since she moved into her nursery at 7 months old but this was just a basic mattress that came with the cot. We wanted to review a spring mattress that was thicker and cooler for sleeping during the summer months.
Sprung mattresses are beneficial to helping with the transition from a cot to a toddler bed. The springs also offer more support as our daughter gets bigger and is less prone to flattening. Additionally, the filling to help avoid perspiration helps sleep during the summer months.
No obvious gaps in the mattress. Comes with a waterproof cover, which is easily removed for cleaning. Comparing this sprung mattress to our current foam mattress, it is easily twice as thick. It also feels very sturdy and durable. The mattress fits our cot perfectly and bedsheets fit far more comfortably than they did on the thinner foam mattress. We have recently had a bit of a hot spell and have had less issues with sweating or poor sleep than we did the previous summer.
We’ve been using it for about two weeks now and have had no issues with the mattress at all, this has enabled very comfortable night times and naps for my daughter. No signs of any dipping whatsoever as it stands and it seems as though the springs will hold. My daughter is on the smaller side so maybe this might be different with a bigger child.
Only difficulty in reviewing this is that my daughter has always been a good sleeper so I can’t say for sure this has improved her sleep, but she is perspiring less at night with this mattress underneath her so I can only assume she is more comfortable. For the comfort of cooler sleeping over the summer alone it is good value. The only negative I can apply is that the thicker mattress means my daughter enjoys bouncing on it in the mornings.
Final Verdict
Very happy with this product, the mattress fits the cot very well and bed sheets are by far a better fit with a firmer sprung mattress than a foam mattress. Have noticed less sweating overnight and sleep has been very good so far, but it generally was anyway.
