At a glance:

The Charlie Banana 2-in-1 Swim Diaper & Training Pants have a waterproof outer layer and a soft organic cotton interior lining which is gentle against your baby's skin. They make ideal training pants when potty training a child because of the trim fit, easy removal and a fine absorbent layer to minimize little accidents. This is the perfect alternative to ugly, bulky or wasteful disposable baby swimwear diapers that don't retain anything. They are also eco-friendly and economical.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Rachel: I think the positive of this swim nappy was definitely the design which was very appealing. I liked the fact that you can unbutton the sides which would make removing them if there were an accident more straightforward. I think that these would be more suited to an older toddler who was reasonably continent and unlikely to have any stool related accidents in the pool as I am not convinced that they would be tight enough to keep everything in.

Christine: I would recommend this product for a child who is already potty trained but still has the occasional accident or doesn’t quite make it to the potty or toilet on time. I imagine the product is good for use as a swim nappy but I did not use it for this purpose. The nappy has a nice soft feel to it and the poppers on the sides make it easier to get on and off.

Helen: I would recommend this product to any parent who is conscious of not wanting to step backwards with potty training but would still like to take their little one swimming. It is really good to know that any accidents are contained and in no danger of polluting the pool water. They are really stylish and very comfortable.

How did this product make your life easier?

Elizabeth: This product being 2-in-1 is great! It makes them so versatile and usable making them much more cost effective. The design is fabulous and has meant there were no fights when trying to get my son to wear it! They are very soft and the materials used means there are no worries about your child’s skin.

Laura: We used this product as a swim nappy for my 18-month-old. I really like the look of the nappy and feel that on a bigger child it would work really well, however my toddler is small and only weighs about 21lbs which is at the lower end of the guide weight. When we first used it, she really put it to the test and pooed while we were in the swimming pool. The nappy did not contain it properly and luckily she had a two-piece suit on otherwise it would have been embarrassing. I would only recommend them for a larger baby.

Kirsty: This product has helped with potty training. My little one has enjoyed wearing ‘big boy pants’ and loves the design as he’s very into dinosaurs. They wash well and dry quickly which is needed during potty training. It saves me time washing lots of clothes as it protects them during little accidents.

Would you choose this product to win?

Emily: I would choose this product over other disposable swim nappies as it looks much better and is much more convenient. It is also much softer for my son's skin which is great as he often gets heat rash when on holiday. I really think this product should win as it was easy to clean, easy to remove and looked great.

Rachel: I like the appearance and the fabric of this nappy and think that for an older child it would be a good choice. I am not sure whether it is good value for money. It has good ecological credentials and could be good for someone who wanted an inner nappy which you would wear under a more waterproof one instead of a disposable. I wouldn't recommend this as a stand-alone nappy for a child who was likely to have an accident as I think that there would still be leaks.

Christine: I would not use this product for potty training above others on the market. I think that pull-ups are more efficient during early potty training and the product could benefit from being more absorbent. I would recommend it for a swim nappy as the design is appealing to a young child and is soft and easy to use with the side poppers.

What changes would you make to this product?

Helen: I haven't come across any problems with the product and it really does what it is intended for. We have used the pants in the swimming pool, paddling pool and the sea with no problems. They are easily cleaned between uses and seemed to dry quickly. My toddler could even use them more than once a day after cleaning and drying.

Elizabeth: I would add a second row of poppers to make it adjustable and to get a longer life out of it. Once potty trained, it would be really handy to use them as swimming trunks. Other than that, I really cannot find fault with the pants. I love them, my son loves them and we will get a lot more use out of them.

Laura: I would prefer if this nappy had poppers so the size could be adjusted. This would make them a better fit for those at the lower and upper ends of the advised weight limit. This would mean there are less likely to be any leaks and greater comfort for the child.
