Testing the Obaby Round Back Rocking Chair

I’m a first-time expectant mum who is nearing the end of my pregnancy and looking for a practical yet stylish nursing chair that provides maximum comfort for me and my little one. In the early days, the chair will mostly be used for feeds, often at night, and therefore, comfort and support for both me and baby is essential. The key things I tested for in this area included padding, back support, arm support and ease of rocking. A rocking chair is also a key feature in the nursery, so it was important for us that it looked nice and complemented the other furniture in the room.

Very easy to build, the chair only required the rocking legs to be installed using an allen key upon delivery. Once unboxed it took a matter of minutes to assemble. Upon trying this product I was mostly impressed by its thoughtful design. The gentle rocking motion is perfect for relaxation, although I found it easier to rock forward rather than backwards due to the angle of the chair and legs.

The thick foam cushioning in both the seat and back offers excellent comfort, while the round back design ensures support from all angles and moulds comfortably around your arms. The length of the legs makes it easy to rock back and forth to a comfortable angle. Its sturdy solid wooden frame guarantees lasting durability, and the neutral colour will allow it to blend nicely into any nursery decor.

One drawback is that the back of the chair doesn’t offer neck/head support or a reclining feature to enable you to fully relax; however, this reduces the risk of falling asleep with baby on you which is a huge safety benefit. At £350, this rocking chair does appear to be at a higher price point than other similar items, many of which also include a matching footrest.

Without testing these products it is hard to conclude whether the Obaby provides value for money in terms of comparable quality and comfort. However, it is still a much more affordable option than many of the recliner nursing chairs on the market. I’d say this chair is perfect for parents requiring a nursing chair that isn’t too big but still provides plenty of comfort and support. The design and fabric also lend this chair to style-conscious parents who are keen to incorporate a nursing chair that looks good as well as being practical.
