Testing the Pote Plus My First WC

When I first took the toilet out of the box, I was impressed at the size and look of it. It's the perfect height for a toddler to sit on, higher than a standard potty so a more natural, comfy sitting position.

The Pote Plus Potty has been transformational for my 3-year-old sons’ engagement with potty training and is so easy to use. The potty not only looks like an adult toilet, with a toilet seat, but has a removable inner tray to make disposing and cleaning easy post each use.

Contents can go straight down the toilet with ease. It makes a flushing noise, with a light which flashes ‘red’ when you press the flush button which my little boy loves pressing following each use. It has helped massively with toilet training as it teaches the whole routine of going, wiping and flushing.

It is unique in its design in that it looks like a real toilet, not a cartoon version, so it looks more at home in my bathroom and will make the transition to the real toilet easier. I love it and wish it had been around for my older daughter.

It feels sturdy and robust. It is simple to use and clean. It also has a handy drawer, accessible from the top, where you can store nappy training wipes that pull through and are easy to access.

My son had no interest in using a standard potty after several attempts to try, but within the first two days of using the Pote Plus, he was using this potty several times a day for wees and was far more engaged in potty training overall. He is actively asking to use the potty frequently and is excited by the ‘Flush/Flash’ mechanism. He even wanted to remove the inner tray himself to take to the ‘big’ toilet to empty it. Initially, I thought the ‘flash/flush’ mechanism would be a gimmick, but it made using the potty really fun for him. The potty gave him initial confidence to wee in and build up to using it to poo.

We keep this potty downstairs in the lounge for easy access, but my son will ask for it to be brought upstairs before bed. It is a bit less convenient to move around over a standard potty, however given he actively asks to use it and shouts ‘hooray’ when he has done a wee, it’s worth the extra effort of being a bit bulky. He still finds doing a poo on the potty a bit of a transition, although he is using it more often.

Final thoughts

I have tested this over a month period and he has now really got to grips with the potty for regular usage at home, although he has to use a standard potty in his childcare environment, which is proving more of a challenge as those ones ‘don’t flush’. He has also been more open to using the toilet with a booster seat on it as a result, as the Pote Plus looks like a standard toilet.

The only small thing I would change is the size of the toilet roll/wipe holder as it was too small to fit a full roll of toilet roll in, I had to use half used rolls to make them fit in the holder which wasn't as convenient as just being able to put a new one in each time. I wouldn't change anything else about this, it was excellent.

Given this product has elevated features that engage a child, it's great quality and feels sturdy, it makes it good value for money. It delivers on its function so I would highly recommend it for anyone starting on their potty-training journey who wants something above and beyond a run of the mill potty.
