Testing the John Lewis Charlotte Cot Bed

This cotbed has a nice gender neutral design, it’s sturdy and easy to put together. The cotbed comes with teething guards on either side and adjusts to 3 different heights depending on how you are using it. It also comes with an alternate headboard and footboard for when you convert it into a bed. With its simple design it is easy to wipe down and clean.

This is such a lovely sturdy cot bed. We used it in fact in ‘cot’ mode with one side off and both ends tall. This should have made it weaker but in fact it’s just as strong with one side missing. This enables me to get to her during the night easily to feed. And be able to put her in without dropping her as the sides on cots are quite tall for me. I know they don’t make drop down sides anymore so this is a good alternative. I love that a shorted end is supplied for the transition to bed however I would like to see the top and bottom supplies as I feel it looks odd with one tall end and one short. The quality of the cot itself is great. It’s so strong however it did arrive damaged. Two areas had dents in the wood so I would be mindful of this if you have a boisterous child or a biter! The teething rail along the top of the sides supplied is great but the rest of the bars may well suffer if they dent and blemish that easily. Put together single handed- very quick and easy.

Great item. The design was very modern but also classic meaning it can be used for generations - can be put up for other children and will still be trendy enough to have in a nursery. The colour is white meaning it is very easy to match with any colour scheme as well as putting with other furniture which doesn't need to be in the same range to match and look nice. The instructions were clear. Baby slept well. Comes into smaller parts meaning it can be stored easily.

As this is a cot bed, it is useful that it will cover the baby and toddler years. I used the cot bed on the top and bottom levels for a baby and a toddler. It is useful that it is a standard size and easy to purchase a mattress/sheets for. The material of the cot bed is easily wipeable. It is not the quickest to change the level of the cot for one person.

My overall impression is that this is well made, sturdy cot bed. Easy to put together and dismantle. I liked the classic design and I think this would look good in any nursery. It converts into a toddler bed so will be useful for several years into the future. There is space underneath the cot which is useful for storing other things.

Final thoughts

This John Lewis Charlotte Cot Bed will compliment any nursery with it's classic yet modern white sturdy design and is one that can be used by many generations. Although it could be made available in different colours, so that there is options.

It's a standard size cot bed and mattress, making it easier to be able to buy sheets and covers for it. The mattresses base is also adjustable, so as your baby grows the base can be lowered, until they out grow it and then it can become a toddler bed, lasting your child several years.

Your baby will get a good nights sleep in this cot bed and you will too knowing they are safe.
